Caledonia uses big second period to beat Brampton, 8-2

The Brampton Bombers was within striking distance after one period, but the Caledonia Corvairs put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-2 victory.

The win gave Caledonia a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Corvairs got the win on the strength of a great game by Brandon Montour, who had two goals and one assist. Montour scored the first of his two goals at 10:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Mitch Brown assisted on the tally. Montour's next tally made the score 5-1 Caledonia with 6:06 left in the second period. Caledonia was on a disadvantage when Simon Blythe went off the ice for hooking. Jeff Swift picked up the assist.

Brampton was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Corvairs were able to score five times while on the power play.

Caledonia made the Bombers' goaltenders to work in net, totaling 35 shots and forcing 27 saves. Bryan Raymond made 16 stops and Erik Angeli made 11. The Corvairs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in five goals.

Caledonia additionally got points from Ryan Blunt, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Spencer Gourlay, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Justin Abraham, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Swift, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Adam Brady, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Greg Christmas also scored for Caledonia. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Tyler Norrie, who had one and Connor Murphy and Nate Mitton, who contributed two a piece.

Brampton was helped by Brady Clouthier, who registered one goal. Clouthier scored 5:40 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia. Matt Capicotto assisted on the tally. Brampton also got a goal from Jacob Hanlon as well. More assists for Brampton came via Eric DiCarlo, who had one and Michael Darrigo, who had two.

Justis Husak made 28 saves for Caledonia on 30 shots. The Corvairs incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. The Bombers totaled 65 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Team's Kyle Allan, Capicotto, and Reid Jackman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
