Port Colborne rips Fort Erie, 9-1Fort Erie Leisureplex Sat, Mar 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Colborne Pirates were firing on all cylinders against the Fort Erie Meteors, and when the final buzzer sounded Pirates emerged with a 9-1 win. With the win, Port Colborne evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. The Pirates got the win with help from a great game by Charlie Izaguirre, who had one goal and three assists. Izaguirre scored 10:32 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Port Colborne. Jordan Warren picked up the assist. Port Colborne's penalty kill excelled, as the Pirates gave up zero goals despite allowing 14 power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:36 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Port Colborne forced Fort Erie's netminders to work all game long, ripping 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Connor Visca made 26 stops and Wyatt Pickrell made 11. The Pirates stifled the Meteors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Colborne additionally got points from Dima Lavrenov, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Colborne included Zack Deconilys, who had two, Bryan Komasara, who had three, and Jordan Bolibruck and DYLAN BURDICK, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Blaine Bechard, who had two and John DiLorenzo and Thomas Sestini, who contributed one a piece. Fort Erie managed to hold Port Colborne's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. The Meteors were led by Aaron Wanat, who scored the team's only goal. Wanat scored 2:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mike Boles assisted on the tally. Real Cormier recorded 22 saves for the Pirates. Port Colborne ended with 43 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. The Pirates ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Warren was ejected from the game. Fort Erie ended with 96 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors. For the Meteors, Dallas Ingram, Cameron Fairgrieve, Richard DeMarco, Nik Passero, and Kyle Marino were ejected from the contest.
