St. Catharines beats Buffalo 8-3 as Karaim gets hat trick

Luke Karaim netted a hat trick to lead the St. Catharines Falcons over the Buffalo Jr. Blades, 8-3.

Karaim got on the scoresheet 17:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:21 into the third and at 17:13 into the third.

The win gave St. Catharines a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Buffalo was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Falcons were able to score five times while on the power play.

The Jr. Blades were unable to stop St. Catharines from sending pucks towards the net, and the Falcons eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Tyler Jackson, who also had one goal and one assist, Yanni Rallis, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Dan MacEachern, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Julian Luciani, who also had one goal and three assists. St. Catharines also got a goal from Greg Jambrosich as well. More assists for St. Catharines came via Jimmy Sheehan, who had one, Mitch Bennett, who had two, and Ben Walsh, who had three.

Buffalo was helped by Seth Hamilton, who registered one goal and one assist. Hamilton scored on the power play 13:43 into the second period to make the score 4-2 St. Catharines. The Jr. Blades earned a power play opportunity when Karaim was put in the box for boarding. Robert Marlinski assisted on the tally. Buffalo also got points from Tyler Gallagher, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan Stayner also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Austin Crossley APJ and Gary Seitz, who each chipped in one.

Stormer Santana rejected 25 shots on goal for St. Catharines. The Falcons incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Ian Shorthouse made 34 saves for Buffalo on 42 shots. The Jr. Blades incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Buffalo, Josh Gordon was ejected from the game.
