Leamington outlasts Sarnia, 6-4

The Leamington Flyers gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Sarnia Legionnaires.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jared Dennis at 12:31 of the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Sarnia faces elimination next time out.

The Legionnaires were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Leamington was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Flyers were led by Dennis, who had one goal.

Sarnia was unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Leamington additionally got points from Chris Lugosi, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Nathan Opblinger, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Kyle Bowman, who also registered one goal and one assist. Alex Seguin also scored for Leamington. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Tony Spidalieri, who had two, David Dalby, who had three, and Kyle Shaw, Jacob McGhee, and Myles Doan, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires were led by Derek D`Andrea, who grabbed two goals. D`Andrea scored the first of his two goals at 16:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Matt Cimetta picked up the assist. D`Andrea's next tally made the score 4-3 Sarnia with 51 seconds left in the second period. Jason Teschke provided the assist. Sarnia also got points from Teschke, who also had one goal and one assist. Sarnia also got a goal from Nathan Mater as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Brent Sauve, who had two and Steve Farlow, Davis Boyer, and Tyler Prong, who contributed one a piece.

Austyn Roudebush made 25 saves for Leamington on 29 shots. The Flyers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Sean Parker rejected 32 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mater was ejected from the game.
