The Newmarket Hurricanes, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Newmarket and clinched a 5-3 victory. The Hurricanes led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Newmarket's Ian Farrell's scored at 5:50 in the third period to put the Hurricanes up 4-1. The win by Newmarket clinched the best of seven series at 4-2. The Hurricanes excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Newmarket kept the Whitby Fury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Feaver made 26 saves on 31 shots. The Hurricanes were helped by Daniel Leavens, who racked up one goal. Leavens scored 16:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Newmarket. Chris Chiste picked up the assist. Newmarket also got a goal from Taylor Chick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Ryan Johnson, who had one and Brandon Francisco and Calvin Higley, who contributed two a piece. Newmarket was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Whitby got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Fury were helped by Connor Laird, who had one goal. Laird scored 11:38 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Newmarket. Spencer MacCormack assisted on the tally. Whitby also got points from Chris Raguseo, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Henry Thompson, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Whitby came via Taylor Best and Mike Panowyk, who each chipped in one. Matthew Wintjes recorded 28 saves for the Hurricanes. Newmarket incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
