Whitby rolls over Newmarket, 5-1

The Whitby Fury were firing on all cylinders against the Newmarket Hurricanes, and when the final buzzer sounded Fury emerged with a 5-1 win.

The win gave Whitby a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Fury were led by goalie Tyler Feaver, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal.

Whitby was paced by Matt Davis, who grabbed one goal. Davis scored 17:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Ryan Logan assisted on the tally.

The Fury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Whitby kept Newmarket's goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Peressini made 26 saves on 31 shots.

Whitby additionally got points from Henry Thompson, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Taylor Best, who also had one goal and one assist, and Steven Deeg, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Greg Milner also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jack Lewis, Sam Gray, and Mike Panowyk, who each chipped in one.

The Fury were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Hurricanes were led by Ryan Johnson, who scored the team's only goal. Johnson scored 3:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Alex Bontje picked up the assist.

Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Newmarket incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
