Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as WHITBY defeated TORONTO in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. TORONTO's shootout goal was scored by Morgan Sly. WHITBY also got a shootout goal from Hanna Bunton.The win gave WHITBY a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. WHITBY stifled TORONTO's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. WHITBY kept TORONTO's goalie busy throughout the game, and Liberty McKague made 27 saves on 31 shots. WHITBY was led by Nicole Martindale, who had one goal and one assist. Martindale scored 6:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 WHITBY. Bunton picked up the assist. Rhyen McGill also scored for WHITBY. Other players who recorded assists for WHITBY were Hailey Noronha, Cassidy Vinkle, and Lauren Williams, who contributed one a piece. WHITBY was unable to stop TORONTO from sending pucks towards the net, and TORONTO eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. TORONTO was led by Brooke Webster, who registered one goal and one assist. Webster scored 4:34 into the third period to make the score 2-2. TORONTO also got a goal from Breanne Wilson-Bennett as well. Marissa Kozovski made 30 saves for WHITBY on 33 shots. WHITBY incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. TORONTO incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
