Kingston beats Wellington 2-1 after comeback scare

The Kingston Voyageurs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Wellington Dukes on the way to a 2-1 win.

Kingston made the score 2-0 on a goal by Michael Schug at 13:31 in the second period, and Wellington got as close as 2-1 when Abbot Girduckis scored 3:15 into the third period.

The win gave the Voyageurs a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Kingston was led by goalie Charlie Finn, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Finn managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.01 prior to the game.

The Voyageurs were sparked by Schug, who racked up one goal.

Kingston kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Larose made 44 saves on 46 shots.

Kingston also got a goal from Ludlow Harris as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Kris Grant, Francesco Vilardi, Graham Yeo, and Michael Casale, who each chipped in one.

The Voyageurs were unable to stop Wellington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dukes eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

More assists for Wellington came via Josh Finkelstein and Kyle Paat, who contributed one a piece.

Kingston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wellington incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
