Mankato West squeaks by New Prague, 4-2Rochester Recreation Center Sat, Feb 23, 2013 The game between the Mankato West Scarlets and the New Prague Spartans was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mankato West emerged with a 4-2 win. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Nick Campbell at 11:48 of the third period. The win gave the Scarlets a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. Max Mettler had one goal and two assists to lead Mankato West. Mettler scored on the power play 6:42 into the third period to make the score 2-1 New Prague. Scott McKissick assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, New Prague was led by Cody Meyer, who grabbed two goals. Meyer scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 57 seconds into the third period to make the score 1-0 New Prague. Ben Witt picked up the assist. Meyer's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 New Prague with 14:40 left in the third period. Witt provided the assist. The Scarlets' offense rang up 31 shots on the Spartans' net. Mankato West also got points from Campbell, who also had one goal and one assist and Derek Frentz, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Zach Erickson also scored for Mankato West. New Prague kept Mankato West's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Spiess made 35 saves on 37 shots. More assists for New Prague came via Austin Isaacson, who had one. The Scarlets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Spartans' Evan Bisek stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. New Prague incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
