Marshall downs Hutchinson in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Gustavus Adolphus College Wed, Feb 27, 2013
The Marshall Tigers pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Hutchinson Tigers on a clutch goal by Alex Buysse.
The win gave Marshall its first ever trip to the MSHSL Class A State Tournament. The Tigers came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Marshall trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Hutchinson's Logan Goosen at 11:55 in the second period. The Tigers knotted things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Corey Clark at 2:13 in the third period. Clark was all over the ice for Marshall, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. The Tigers kept the Tigers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kellyn Buss made 36 saves on 39 shots. Marshall also got points from Beau Mikel, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Marshall received assists from Adam McVey, who had one. Marshall was unable to stop Hutchinson from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Hutchinson additionally got points from Tory Adams, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Hutchinson came via Matthew Cowger, who had two. Masion Campion made 31 saves for the Tigers on 33 shots. Marshall incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hutchinson incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
