Hutchinson outlasts Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato, 3-2

The Hutchinson Tigers and the Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hutchinson made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Tigers gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matthew Cowger 16:20 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win gave Hutchinson a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Cowger was all over the ice for the Tigers, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Cowger scored the first of his two goals at 13:56 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tory Adams assisted on the tally. Cowger's next tally made the score 3-2 Hutchinson with 3:40 left in the second period. Adams picked up the assist.

Hutchinson's offense rang up 52 shots on Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Keegan Maceman also scored for Hutchinson. In addition, Hutchinson received assists from Cody Nielson, who had one.

The Dragons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato kept the Tigers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kellyn Buss made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Dragons were helped by Ethan Niemela, who had one goal. Niemela scored 8:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. Reid Nelson assisted on the tally. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato also got a goal from Ryan Tormanen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato were Mike Spreiter, Kent Ryynanen, and Aaron Haataja, who contributed one a piece.

Hutchinson incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Braeden Wahl rejected 49 shots on goal for Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. The Dragons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
