White Bear Lake wins tough contest against North High, 5-3Aldrich Arena Sat, Feb 23, 2013 The White Bear Lake Bears and the North High Polars were evenly matched throughout their contest, but White Bear Lake made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. The Bears gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Steffen 2:36 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave White Bear Lake a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. Jake Wahlin and Tommy Giller provided the spark for the Bears, combining for two goals and five assists. Wahlin registered one goal and three assists and Giller also notched one goal and two assists. White Bear Lake put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow North High to score on any of its five power plays. The Polars were unable to stop the Bears from sending pucks towards the net, and White Bear Lake eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. White Bear Lake also got points from Giller, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. White Bear Lake also got a goal from Peter Wachtler as well. In addition, White Bear Lake received assists from Peter Deppert and Jake Dittel, who each chipped in one. North High was helped by Justin Oliver, who tallied two goals and one assist. Oliver scored the first of his two goals short handed at 10:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North High. Jack Murnane picked up the assist. Oliver's next tally short handed made the score 3-1 North High with 6:09 left in the first period. Tyler Oliver provided the assist. North High additionally got points from Adan Hildebrandt, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Chase Gorman made 15 saves for the Bears on 18 shots. White Bear Lake incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mario Bollman rejected 35 shots on goal for the Polars. North High incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
