Wayzata beats Minnetonka 5-1 as Wahl gets hat trick

Jalen Wahl netted a hat trick to lead the Wayzata Trojans over the Minnetonka Skippers, 5-1.

Wahl got on the scoresheet 11:25 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:53 into the second and at 11:54 into the third.

The win gave Wayzata a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

The Trojans were led by goalie Aaron Dingman, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Dingman will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.18 entering the contest.

Wayzata's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Minnetonka power plays.

Wayzata also got a goal from Maxwell Zimmer as well. In addition, Wayzata received assists from Brian Machut, Akash Batra, Chase Haller, Jack Sorensen, and Chandler Linstrand, who contributed one a piece and Chad Olson and Chase Heising, who each chipped in two.

Minnetonka forced the Trojans goalie Dingman to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Skippers were led by Connor Thie, who scored the team's only goal. Thie scored 7:39 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Joe Lindberg assisted on the tally.

Wayzata incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Minnetonka's Paul Ciaccio stopped 16 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Skippers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
