Benilde St. Margarets outlasts Eden Prairie, 5-3

The Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Eden Prairie Eagles.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nate Labosky's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The win gave Benilde St. Margarets a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

T.J. Moore was all over the ice for the Red Knights, as he registered two goals in the win. Moore's tallies came at 10:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 23 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Benilde St. Margarets.

Benilde St. Margarets kept Eden Prairie's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Gerdes made 33 saves on 38 shots.

Benilde St. Margarets also got points from Labosky, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Benilde St. Margarets also got a goal from Chris Hickok as well. In addition, Benilde St. Margarets received assists from Zack Hale and Nick Austin, who each chipped in one and Grant Besse and Patrick Graham, who contributed two a piece.

The Eagles were led by Steven Spinner, who tallied two goals. Spinner scored the first of his two goals at 13:48 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Benilde St. Margarets. Mason Bergh assisted on the tally. Spinner's next tally made the score 4-3 Benilde St. Margarets with 18:13 left in the third period. Luc Snuggerud picked up the assist. Andrew Knudsen also scored for Eden Prairie. More assists for Eden Prairie came via Hunter Warner, Michael Graham, and John Sullivan, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Sprang made 18 saves for the Red Knights on 21 shots. Benilde St. Margarets incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Eden Prairie incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
