Early goals doom Holy Family Catholic, falls to Eden Prairie, 7-1

The Holy Family Catholic Fire fell behind early, and the Eden Prairie Eagles kept piling on the points on the way to a 7-1 victory.

The win gave Eden Prairie a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Steven Spinner was all over the ice for the Eagles, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Spinner scored the first of his two goals at 1:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mason Bergh picked up the assist. Spinner's next tally made the score 6-1 Eden Prairie with 8:01 left in the third period. Eden Prairie found itself down a man on Michael Graham's slashing. Luc Snuggerud assisted on the tally.

Holy Family Catholic was stymied by the Eagles netminder Jake Gerdes, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Despite the solid performance, Gerdes will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.18 entering the contest.

The Fire were unable to stop Eden Prairie from sending pucks towards the net, and the Eagles eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Eden Prairie additionally got points from Bergh, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Nic Bentz, who also registered one goal and one assist. Eden Prairie also got a goal from Brady Schoo as well. In addition, Eden Prairie received assists from Andrew Knudsen and Harry Pajor, who contributed one a piece.

Holy Family Catholic was led by Joey Marooney, who scored the team's only goal. Marooney scored on the power play 36 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Holy Family Catholic. The Fire had gained a power play chance when Hunter Warner was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Garret Riebling provided the assist.

Eden Prairie incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Derek LaCombe rejected 44 shots on goal for Holy Family Catholic. The Fire incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
