Ayr squeaks by Hagersville, 4-3

The game between the Ayr Centennials and the Hagersville Hawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Ayr emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mike McKnight secured the win for the Centennials with a goal in the third period.

The win by Ayr broke a deadlock and gave the Centennials a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Hagersville's power play was ineffective against Ayr's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Centennials were paced by McKnight, who registered one goal and one assist. McKnight scored 17:23 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Ayr. Adam Fisher assisted on the tally.

Ayr stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Centennials forced Hagersville goalie Aaron Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Ayr additionally got points from Fisher, who also had one goal and one assist. Andrew Richard also scored for Ayr. In addition, Ayr received assists from Dustin Scheer, Jordan Eby, Brandon Christopher, and Alex Richard, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks got their opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of their 12 chances.

Hagersville was helped by Aleck Boyd, who grabbed one goal. Boyd scored 8:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Rob Clause picked up the assist. Hagersville also got points from Brad Hornby, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hagersville also got a goal from Derek Medeiros as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Kyle Phibbs, Nick Halliday, and Mitch Green, who each chipped in one.

Lee Doherty made 24 saves for Ayr on 27 shots. The Centennials totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 2-for-9 on the power play. For Ayr, Mike Wilkins was ejected from the game. Cormier rejected 28 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hagersville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
