Boyd's hat trick boosts Hagersville over Ayr, 7-5

Aleck Boyd netted a hat trick to lead the Hagersville Hawks over the Ayr Centennials, 7-5.

Boyd got on the scoresheet 12:40 into the second period. He then added goals at 18:20 into the second and at 19:19 into the third.

With the win, Hagersville evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

The Hawks led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Hagersville's Cole Martin's scored on the power play at 19:50 in the first period to put the Hawks up 4-0.

Hagersville made Ayr's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Lee Doherty made 17 stops and Mitch Figueirdo made 15. The Hawks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in five goals to the Centennials' power play unit.

Hagersville also got points from Brad Hornby, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Derek Medeiros, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Jacob Brown, who had one and Jesse Ross and Rob Clause, who contributed three a piece.

Ayr forced Hagersville goalie Aaron Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

The Centennials were led by Mike Wilkins, who registered one goal and two assists. Wilkins scored on the power play 8:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Hagersville. Ayr had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Hayden Baird was sent off for slashing. Dustin Scheer assisted on the tally. Adam Fisher also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Nick Hirs, who had two and Ben Poort and Declan Kaster, who each chipped in one.

Hagersville's Cormier stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Hawks totaled 48 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and two majors and went 3-for-6 on the power play. For Hagersville, Chace Mitchell AP and Baird were ejected from the contest. The Centennials ended with 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and two majors. Team's Alex Richard and Nathan Redford were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
