Lakefield boosted by Wainman's play in net, beats Clarington 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Zach Wainman helped the Lakefield Chiefs defeat the Clarington Eagles, 2-1.

The win by Lakefield clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

The Chiefs were led by Connor Blair, who tallied one goal. Blair scored on the power play 8:30 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. A abuse of officials penalty on Brad Down had put Lakefield on the power play. Ryan Anderson provided the assist.

The Chiefs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Clarington power plays.

Tyler Roy also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Keenan Runnalis, Nathan Larson, and Derek Manley, who contributed one a piece.

Clarington's offense rang up 31 shots on Lakefield's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Mitchell Marchbank and Blane Gaudon, who each chipped in one.

Wainman recorded 30 saves for the Chiefs. Lakefield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brandon Green made 27 saves for the Eagles on 29 shots. Clarington incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
