Wainman leads Lakefield to shutout victory over ClaringtonGarnet B. Rickard Rec Complex Thu, Feb 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Zach Wainman made 25 saves to complete the shutout and led the Lakefield Chiefs to a 6-0 win against the Clarington Eagles. The win gave Lakefield a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Chiefs were paced by Derek Manley, who grabbed one goal. Manley scored 2:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. Jordan Walsh assisted on the tally. Lakefield forced Eagles' goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 45 shots and forcing 39 saves. Anthony DUrso made 21 stops and Brandon Green made 18. The Chiefs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Lakefield also got points from Riley Campbell, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Eric Schewell, who also had one goal and one assist, Eric Oosting, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Nathan Larson, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Keenan Runnalis, who had one. Lakefield incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Walsh was ejected from the game. Clarington ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. For the Eagles, Greg St. James was ejected from the game.
