Wheaton leads Essex to shutout victory over DresdenEssex Centre Sports Complex Fri, Feb 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Trevor Wheaton was superb between the pipes for the Essex 73s, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Dresden Kings. After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Dresden faces elimination next time out. Essex pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 30 penalty minutes. The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Essex's offense rang up 40 shots on the Kings' net. The 73s were helped by Daniel McIntyre, who finished with one goal. McIntyre scored 19:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Essex also got a goal from Alex Garon as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Blaise Baillargeon and Jordan Brohman, who each chipped in one. Dresden kept Essex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Wheaton made 34 saves on 34 shots. The 73s registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Kings' Brent Paxton stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Dresden incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
