Dresden falls to Essex in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Alex Garon gave the Essex 73s a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Dresden Kings when he scored 12:14 into the extra period.

The win gave Essex a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The 73s overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Essex was down 3-1 after a goal by Dresden's Josh Beatty at 9:30 in the second period. The 73s tied things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Daniel Slipchuck at 9:47 in the third period.

Garon was all over the ice for Essex, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The 73s' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Dresden power plays. Essex forced the Kings goalie Brent Paxton to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Essex also got a goal from Scott Bromley as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Matthew Hebert and Dylan Solecki, who contributed one a piece and Corey Beaulieu and Jordan Brohman, who each chipped in two.

Dresden put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 73s to score on any of their eight power plays. The Kings kept Essex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Trevor Wheaton made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Dresden was helped by Derek Daly, who finished with one goal. Daly scored 6:43 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Dresden. Cody McPhail provided the assist. John Montgomery also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via Jesse Allen, who had two and Dylan Mertz and Wade Esselman, who contributed one a piece.

The 73s incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. The Kings' Paxton stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Dresden incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
