Corey Beaulieu registered one point to lead the Essex 73s to a 4-1 victory over the Dresden Kings. The win gave Essex a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The 73s' offense rang up 32 shots on Dresden's net. Essex got its opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of its 10 chances. Essex additionally got points from Jordan Ryan, who also had one goal and one assist and Daniel McIntyre, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Essex also got a goal from Daniel Slipchuck as well. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Marco Canzoneri, who had two and Blaise Baillargeon, Jordan Brohman, Alex Garon, and Scott Bromley, who contributed one a piece. The Kings stifled the 73s' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dresden was led by Alex Ritchie, who scored the team's only goal. Ritchie scored on the power play 3:52 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A roughing penalty on Trevor Wheaton had put the Kings on the power play. Macks Holmes picked up the assist. Wheaton rejected 16 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Brent Paxton made 28 saves for Dresden on 32 shots. The Kings incurred 44 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jesse Allen was ejected from the game.
