Kienapple's big game bests Simcoe in 4-1 New Hamburg win

The New Hamburg Firebirds' Sean Kienapple had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 4-1 win over the Simcoe Storm.

Kienapple's tallies came at 14:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg and 17:44 into the first to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg.

The win by New Hamburg broke a deadlock and gave the Firebirds a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Simcoe's power play was ineffective against New Hamburg's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. New Hamburg's offense rang up 42 shots on the Storm's net.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Kyle Mohr, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brock Yantzi also scored for New Hamburg. More assists for New Hamburg came via Kyle McDonald, Nick Pope, and Trevor Sweetland, who each chipped in one.

Simcoe was led by Braden Roberts, who scored the team's only goal. Roberts scored 15:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1.

Eric Peicheff recorded 20 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Storm's Alex Gegeny stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Simcoe incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
