Minnesota vanquishes Granite City in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Jared Sprink scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Minnesota Flying Aces picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-0 SO) win over the Granite City Lumberjacks.

The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. Minnesota's other shootout goal was scored by Sprink.

The Flying Aces overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Minnesota trailed 2-1 after a goal by Granite City's Aaron Storch at 11:21 in the second period. The Flying Aces tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by John May at 12:47 in the second period.

The Lumberjacks were unable to stop Minnesota from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flying Aces eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Minnesota was helped by Brad Hauser, who had one goal. Hauser scored 54 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minnesota. Alex Yde assisted on the tally. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Mason Wyman, Patrick Kegley, and Sprink, who contributed one a piece.

Granite City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flying Aces to score on any of their three power plays. The Lumberjacks' offense operated below they season average. Granite City averages 4.5 goals per game. The Lumberjacks kept Minnesota's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt McLaughlin made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Granite City also got a goal from Eric Miller as well. More assists for Granite City came via Aidan Verbeke, Hunter Schneider, Roy Grandov, and Mitch Humphries, who each chipped in one.

The Flying Aces incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Granite City's Austin Wilson stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Lumberjacks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
