The game between the Wheatley Sharks and the Belle River Canadiens was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Wheatley emerged with a 4-2 win. The Sharks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Kurtis Ouellette 17:32 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave Wheatley a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Ouellette was all over the ice for the Sharks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Belle River was unable to stop Wheatley from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sharks eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Wheatley also got a goal from Kyle Quick as well. More assists for Wheatley came via Brett Babkirk, who had two and Brett Bowman, Eric Rivard, and Luke Gagnon, who contributed one a piece. The Canadiens were helped by Mark Manchurek, who had one goal. Manchurek scored on the power play 16:36 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Belle River. Belle River had gained a power play chance when Nikko Sablone was whistled for slashing. Branden Larocque picked up the assist. James Shelton also scored for Belle River. Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Billy Eansor, Mike Ditty, and Donnovan Plummer, who each chipped in one. Wheatley's Marc Tremblay stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Sharks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Zakk Olvin rejected 30 shots on goal for the Canadiens. Belle River incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. |
