Newmarket outlasts Lindsay, 5-3

The Newmarket Hurricanes gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Lindsay Muskies.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Sean Walker's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Daniel Leavens had two goals and one assist to lead Newmarket. Leavens scored the first of his two goals at 15:35 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Brandon Francisco picked up the assist. Leavens' next tally made the score 5-3 Newmarket with 14 seconds left in the third period. Walker assisted on the tally.

The Hurricanes forced Lindsay goalie Matt Robson to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Newmarket was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

Newmarket also got points from Walker, who also had one goal and two assists and Francisco, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jeff Murray also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Kyler Nixon and Ian Farrell, who each chipped in one.

The Muskies' offense rang up 32 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Lindsay was helped by Dean Klomp, who registered one goal. Klomp scored 7:04 into the second period to make the score 2-2. William Pelletier provided the assist. Lindsay additionally got points from Louis-David Bourgault, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Lindsay also got a goal from Felix Chamberland as well. In addition, Lindsay received assists from Patrick Thornton, Dylan Fitze, and Brian Hubers, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Peressini made 29 saves for Newmarket on 32 shots. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Robson rejected 33 shots on goal for the Muskies. Lindsay incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
