Penalties doom Stayner against Midland in 8-2 loss

The Stayner Siskins fell victim to the Midland Flyers' four power play goals en route to an 8-2 loss.

The win by Midland broke a deadlock and gave the Flyers a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Midland was paced by Darren Nesbitt AP, who tallied one goal. Nesbitt AP scored 2:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Midland. Daniel Pickering assisted on the tally.

The Flyers forced Stayner's goalies to work in net, firing 47 shots and forcing 39 saves. Taylor Trace made 24 stops and Jay Payton AP made 15. Midland got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Midland also got points from Jason Leigh, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Jacob Busch, who also registered one goal and one assist, and JD Sterne, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Midland included Zach Leduc, who had two and Josh LaFrance and Jon Meeks, who scored one goal each. More assists for Midland came via Jordan Gravelle and Cam Lintner, who each chipped in one and Matt Brown and Curtis Warren, who contributed two a piece.

The Flyers were unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Stayner eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Siskins were helped by Ryan Laurie, who finished with one goal. Laurie scored 8:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. Jeff Hamm picked up the assist. Hayden Shackleton also scored for Stayner. In addition, Stayner received assists from Will Gerow and Daniel Latour, who each chipped in one.

Marco Colangelo recorded 32 saves for Midland. The Flyers incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Stayner incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors.
