Grimsby downs Dunnville, 8-4

The Grimsby Peach Kings took home the 8-4 victory over the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats.

The win gave Grimsby a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Peach Kings kept Dunnville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Rosettani made 36 saves on 44 shots. Grimsby's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

The Peach Kings were led by Jordan McCarl, who racked up one goal and two assists. McCarl scored 11:22 into the first period to make the score 4-0 Grimsby. Jacob Tuck provided the assist. Grimsby additionally got points from Colin Wierts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Curtis Jacques, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included ZaK McQuade, who had two and Colin Isnor, Cooper Naugoris, and Andrew Kolodzey, who each put in one. More assists for Grimsby came via Mathew Paonessa, who had two and Anthony Pullia, Stuart Isnor, Richard Recchia, Robert Wormald, and Peter Shantz, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Mudcats were helped by Troy Pieterse, who had one goal and one assist. Pieterse scored on the power play 3:55 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Grimsby. Dunnville had taken the advantage when Grimsby's Paonessa got sent off for hooking. Austin Golding assisted on the tally. Dunnville also got points from Golding, who also registered one goal and one assist. Dunnville also got a goal from Brandon Schmalz as well. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Ryan Pilon, who had two and Evan Huckalo, Landon Minor, Luke Rowe, and Damien Lalonde, who each chipped in one.

The Peach Kings' Jeremy Currie stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Grimsby incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 62 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Dunnville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bret Golding was ejected from the game.
