Norwich's Ford deadly on offense in 7-4 win against Paris

The Norwich Merchants relied on the scoring touch of Gus Ford, who netted two goals, to beat the Paris Mounties, 7-4.

Ford found the back of the net on the power play 9:01 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 38 seconds into the third to make the score 4-2 Norwich.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Paris faces elimination next time out.

Norwich forced Mounties' netminders to work in net, getting 52 shots and forcing 45 saves. Andrew Masters made 41 stops and Zach Shompe made four. The Merchants were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 11 man advantages.

Others who scored for Norwich included Tom Brady, who had three and Todd Poirier and Drake Morrell, who each put in one. In addition, Norwich received assists from Dalton Riley, who had three and Nick Burdett, Todd Kemp, Jakob Schira, Brett Parsons, and Brandon Zimmermann, who each chipped in one.

The Mounties forced Norwich goalie Matt McGonigle to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Paris was helped by Patrick Houle, who racked up one goal. Houle scored on the power play 11:15 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Norwich. The Mounties had gained a power play chance when Taylor Gosset was whistled for slashing. Paris also got a goal from Aaron Hosszu as well. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Graham Kitching, Brandan Verasamy, Ian Fowler, and Mitch Atkins, who contributed one a piece.

McGonigle recorded 33 saves for the Merchants. Norwich ended with 43 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. The Merchants ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Burdett was ejected from the game. Paris incurred 54 minutes in penalty time with 17 minors. For the Mounties, Scott Sippel was ejected from the game.
