Walkerton stifles Mount Forest's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Walkerton Hawks, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Walkerton and clinched a 5-3 victory.

The Hawks led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Walkerton's Shane MacDonald's scored at 14:05 in the second period to put the Hawks up 4-0.

Walkerton evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

The Hawks stifled the Mount Forest Patriots' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Walkerton kept Mount Forest's goalie busy throughout the game, and Luke Bierworth made 41 saves on 46 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Brandon Lamothe, who racked up one goal. Lamothe scored 6:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Walkerton. Adam Alexander picked up the assist. Connor Patton also scored for Walkerton. More assists for Walkerton came via Drew Davidson, who had two and Joel Bowman, Jay Thomson, Jake Barclay, and Austin Russell, who contributed one a piece.

The Patriots excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Mount Forest forced Walkerton goalie Jeff Flagler to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

The Patriots were helped by Cody Wright, who had one goal. Wright scored 9:51 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Walkerton. Trevor Hughson assisted on the tally. Mount Forest also got points from Doug Ardis, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Luke Richardson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Dean Nixon and Ben Davis, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks' Flagler stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Walkerton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mount Forest incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
