Bierworth stymies Walkerton, Mount Forest wins 2-1

Luke Bierworth stood on his head and made 31 saves to lead the Mount Forest Patriots to a 2-1 victory over the Walkerton Hawks.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Walkerton faces elimination next time out.

Mount Forest pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

The Patriots were sparked by Doug Ardis, who tallied one goal. Ardis scored short handed 8:33 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mount Forest. A slashing call on Trevor Hughson put Mount Forest on the penalty kill. Dave Culliton provided the assist.

The Patriots excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Mount Forest kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeff Flagler made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Luke Richardson also scored for Mount Forest. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Dean Nixon, who had one.

Walkerton stifled the Patriots' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mount Forest was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Walkerton eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Hawks were led by Shane MacDonald, who scored the team's only goal. MacDonald scored 12:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Drew Davidson assisted on the tally.

The Patriots registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. For Mount Forest, Ben Davis was ejected from the game. Walkerton incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Hawks, Jordan Turcotte and Haden Campbell were ejected from the contest.
