Walkerton downs Mount Forest in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Walkerton Hawks' Haden Campbell scored 14:13 into overtime to beat the Mount Forest Patriots, 5-4 (OT).

With the win, Walkerton evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

The Hawks almost relinquished a two-score lead. Walkerton made the score 4-2 on a goal by Connor Patton at 19:12 in the second period. Mount Forest got to within 4-3 on a goal by Trevor Hughson at 5:03 in the third period.

The Hawks kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and Luke Bierworth made 43 saves on 48 shots.

Walkerton also got points from Lauchlin Elder, who also registered one goal and one assist. Walkerton also got a goal from Brandon Lamothe as well. More assists for Walkerton came via Jordan Turcotte, who had one and Drew Davidson and Adam Alexander, who each chipped in two.

Mount Forest stifled Walkerton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Patriots forced the Hawks goalie Jeff Flagler to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Mount Forest was helped by Luke Richardson, who tallied two goals. Richardson scored the first of his two goals at 1:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. Doug Costanzo picked up the assist. Richardson's next tally made the score 2-2 with 4:53 left in the second period. The Patriots had gained a power play chance when Campbell was whistled for slashing. Ben Davis assisted on the tally. Mount Forest additionally got points from Dave Culliton, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Dean Nixon, who had one.

Jeff Flagler made 45 saves for Walkerton on 49 shots. The Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mount Forest incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
