Walkerton shrugs off penalties, upends Mount Forest, 7-4Western Jr. C Sun, Feb 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mount Forest Patriots failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Walkerton Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-4. The win moved Walkerton to down 2-1 in the best of seven series. The Hawks were led by Connor Patton, who racked up one goal. Patton scored short handed 10:32 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Walkerton. Walkerton found itself down a man on Drew Davidson's hooking. Jay Thomson picked up the assist. The Hawks forced Patriots' goalies to work all game long, firing 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Luke Bierworth made 30 stops and John Nixon made two. Walkerton also got points from Jordan Turcotte, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Davidson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Haden Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Walkerton also got a goal from Brooks Nelthorpe as well. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Cole Rooney, who had one and Adam Alexander, who had two. Mount Forest had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. The Patriots were helped by Cody Wright, who registered one goal. Wright scored on the power play 4:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mount Forest had taken the advantage when Walkerton's Shane MacDonald got sent off for slashing. Doug Ardis provided the assist. Mount Forest additionally got points from Ardis, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nathan Woodard also scored for Mount Forest. More assists for Mount Forest came via Jon Aitken, Trevor Hughson, and Dean Nixon, who each chipped in one. Jeff Flagler made 23 saves for the Hawks on 27 shots. Walkerton incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Patriots incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
