Wright's goals lift Mount Forest to 5-2 victory over Walkerton

The Mount Forest Patriots relied on the scoring touch of Cody Wright, who netted two goals, to beat the Walkerton Hawks, 5-2.

Wright found the back of the net 3:57 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 18:41 into the third to make the score 4-2 Mount Forest.

The win gave Mount Forest a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Patriots' penalty kill excelled, as Mount Forest gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Patriots kept Walkerton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeff Flagler made 33 saves on 38 shots. Mount Forest got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Mount Forest also had goals scored by Matt Marshall, who had one and Doug Costanzo, who had two. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Nathan Woodard, who had two and Dean Nixon and Ben Davis, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks were led by Haden Campbell, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Campbell scored 5:41 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Nikolas McIver provided the assist. Walkerton also got a goal from Adam Alexander as well.

Luke Bierworth rejected 27 shots on goal for the Patriots. Mount Forest incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Walkerton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
