Tavistock holds on for 2-1 win against Ayr

The Ayr Centennials tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Tavistock Braves held on for a 2-1 victory.

Tavistock took a 2-0 lead during the first period, only to have Ayr storm back on a Alex Mutton goal 5:59 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, the Centennials face elimination next time out.

The Braves' Taylor VanBockel was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, VanBockel will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.58 entering the contest.

Tavistock was helped by Deven Kropf, who racked up one goal. Kropf scored 15:58 into the first period to make the score Tavistock. Charlie Malson provided the assist. Mac Kalbfleisch also scored for Tavistock. More assists for Tavistock came via Nick Quehl, Jordan Ritsma, and Chris Newcombe, who contributed one a piece.

Ayr's offense rang up 31 shots on the Braves' net.

In addition, Ayr received assists from Andrew Richard and Nick Hirs, who each chipped in one.

Tavistock incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Lee Doherty made 24 saves for the Centennials on 26 shots. Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
