Kitchener outlasts Caledonia, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Kitchener Dutchmen escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Caledonia Corvairs.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Matt Pappineau at 19:48 of the third period.

Kitchener pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

The Dutchmen forced Caledonia's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. Marcus DelConte made 26 stops and Justis Husak made one.

Kitchener additionally got points from Keegan Calder, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Logan Schmidt (APM) also scored for Kitchener. More assists for Kitchener came via Philip Moser and Keli Grant, who contributed one a piece.

The Corvairs kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Caledonia was helped by Nate Mitton, who racked up two goals. Mitton scored the first of his two goals at 10:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Brier Jonathan picked up the assist. Mitton's next tally made the score 3-3 with 2:54 left in the second period. A tripping call on Matt Quilty put the Corvairs on the penalty kill. Brandon Montour provided the assist. Caledonia also got points from Montour, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Adam Brady, who had one and Tyler Norrie, who had two.

The Dutchmen registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Caledonia incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
