Strathroy survives St. Marys comeback, wins 5-4

The Strathroy Rockets came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the St. Marys Lincolns, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Strathroy led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Rockets' Stuart King's scored on the power play at 14:22 in the second period to put Strathroy up 4-0.

The Rockets' penalty kill excelled, as Strathroy gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Rockets were led by Chase Thornton, who tallied one goal and one assist. Thornton scored 15:22 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Strathroy. Tyler Duarte assisted on the tally.

Strathroy kept St. Marys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Craig Wood made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Strathroy additionally got points from Nick Boyer, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blake O`Neill also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Trevor Dulong, Brett Dalton, Kurtis Sander, and Luke Jackson, who contributed one a piece.

The Lincolns struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 27 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

St. Marys was helped by Calvin Penney, who finished with two goals and two assists. Penney scored the first of his two goals at 14:50 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Strathroy. Owen MacDonald picked up the assist. Penney's next tally made the score 4-4 with 5:33 left in the third period. MacDonald assisted on the tally. St. Marys also got points from MacDonald, who also registered one goal and three assists. St. Marys also got a goal from Tyson Baker as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Kurtis Lavis, David Sproat, and Colin Hartwick, who each chipped in one.

Gordie Weiss rejected 26 shots on goal for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Lincolns ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Bryson was ejected from the game.
