Penetang holds on for 7-5 win against Erin

The Erin Shamrocks tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Penetang Kings held on for a 7-5 victory.

Penetang took a 7-3 lead during the third period, only to have Erin storm back on a Josh Sguigna goal 8:28 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, the Shamrocks face elimination next time out.

The Kings got the win thanks to a great game by Craig Robinson, who had two goals and one assist. Robinson scored the first of his two goals short handed at 16:41 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Penetang. Penetang found itself down a man on Matt Meher's cross checking. Robinson's next tally short handed made the score 6-3 Penetang with 31 seconds left in the second period. Meher picked up the assist.

Erin was unable to stop the Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Penetang eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Penetang also got points from Jesse Moreau, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hayden Cole also scored for Penetang. In addition, Penetang received assists from Jake Shaw APM, who had one, Austin Fischer, who had three, and Brandon Frandsen and Matt Fischer, who contributed two a piece.

The Shamrocks' offense rang up 42 shots on the Kings' net. Erin was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

The Shamrocks were helped by Chris Terry, who finished with one goal and one assist. Terry scored on the power play 11:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Erin. A holding stick penalty on Fischer had put Erin on the power play. Sguigna provided the assist. Erin additionally got points from Sguigna, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Erin also had goals scored by Oran Ferguson, who had one and Kevin Gergely, who had two. More assists for Erin came via Chris Crossey, who had two and Kyle Bennett and Tyler Burlock, who each chipped in one.

Adam Redgate recorded 37 saves for Penetang. The Kings incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Dean Daquano made 42 saves for the Shamrocks on 49 shots. Erin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
