Sioux Falls SD beats Marshall 6-3 as Appeldorn gets hat trick

The Marshall Tigers could not stop Sioux Falls SD's Brandon Appeldorn, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-3 win.

Appeldorn notched his first tally 16:54 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:43 into the third and at 15:59 into the third.

Sioux Falls SD also got points from Caleb Anderson, who also had one goal and two assists. Jack Hunter also scored for Sioux Falls SD. Other players who recorded assists for Sioux Falls SD were Brandon Reiff and Ben Czarnecki, who contributed one a piece.

Marshall managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Tigers finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Sioux Falls SD was unable to stop Marshall from sending pucks towards the net, and the Tigers eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Marshall was led by Corey Clark, who grabbed two goals. Clark scored the first of his two goals at 16:13 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sioux Falls SD. Casper Larsen picked up the assist. Clark's next tally made the score 3-3 with 13:42 left in the third period. Marshall also got a goal from Quinn Horvath as well.

Sioux Falls SD's Josh Jackson stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Sioux Falls SD incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Adam Cavazos made 23 saves for the Tigers on 29 shots. Marshall registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
