Hagersville's comeback falls short, Wellesley wins 6-4

The Hagersville Hawks almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Wellesley Applejacks managed to pull out a 6-4 win in the end.

Wellesley led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Applejacks' Cody Tapsell's scored at 6:15 in the first period to put Wellesley up 4-1.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Hagersville faces elimination next time out.

Devon Wagner quarterbacked the Applejacks' offense to perfection and bagged four assists in Wellesley's win over the Hawks.

The Applejacks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Wellesley got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Wellesley also got points from Shawn Fitzpatrick, who also registered one goal and one assist, Reid Denstedt, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Josh Herd, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tapsell, who also had two goals and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Corey Way as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Troy Williams, who had one.

Hagersville kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 41 saves on 45 shots.

The Hawks were led by Mitch Green, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Green scored the first of his two goals at 4:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Eric Drehmer provided the assist. Green's next tally made the score 5-4 Wellesley with 6:23 left in the second period. Kyle Parsons picked up the assist. Hagersville additionally got points from Parsons, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Nick Halliday also scored for Hagersville. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Kyle Phibbs and Derek Medeiros, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Hagersville took out Aaron Cormier after he had made two saves and installed Matt Murphy in goal, where he finished with 22 saves and the loss. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
