GAME RECAP

Wellesley boosted by Heer's play in net, beats Hagersville 4-1

SOJHL     Sat, Feb 09, 2013

Josh Heer had a standout game with 40 saves, and the Wellesley Applejacks beat the Hagersville Hawks 4-1.

The win gave Wellesley a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Hagersville's power play was ineffective against the Applejacks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Wellesley was led by Corey Way, who had one goal and one assist. Way scored short handed 18:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. An interference call on Taylor Doering put the Applejacks on the penalty kill.

Wellesley also got a goal from Ryan Michael as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Michael Pollice, Luke Rose, Justin Lebold, and Tyler Eckert, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Wellesley power plays. Hagersville's offense rang up 41 shots on Wellesley's net.

The Hawks were led by Derek Medeiros, who scored the team's only goal. Medeiros scored on the power play 19:58 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Hagersville had gained a power play chance when Jake Ariss was whistled for cross checking. Kyle Parsons provided the assist.

The Applejacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Matt Murphy made 23 saves for the Hawks on 26 shots. Hagersville incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
