Wellesley falls apart in second, loses to Hagersville, 8-2

The Wellesley Applejacks allowed the Hagersville Hawks to net four goals during the second period and fell, 8-2.

With the win, Hagersville evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

The Hawks were led by Jesse Ross, who racked up one goal. Ross scored 6:12 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. Derek Medeiros assisted on the tally.

Hagersville made Applejacks' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 60 shots and forcing 52 saves. Josh Heer made 21 stops and Corey Tuffnail made 31. The Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wellesley to score on any of its four power plays. Hagersville got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Hagersville additionally got points from Brad Hornby, who also had one goal and one assist, Jacob Erwin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Rob Clause, who also registered one goal and one assist, Medeiros, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Aleck Boyd, who also had one goal and one assist. Kyle Phibbs also scored for Hagersville. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Nick Halliday, Jacob Brown, and Ryan McLaren, who contributed one a piece and Hayden Baird, Kyle Parsons, and Nate Ferris, who each chipped in two.

The Applejacks were led by Ryan Michael, who tallied one goal. Michael scored 12:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Tyler Eckert picked up the assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Luke Rose as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Troy Williams, who had one.

The Hawks' Aaron Cormier stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Hagersville incurred 34 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Wellesley incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
