In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wellesley Applejacks escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Hagersville Hawks. Wellesley gained the winning advantage on a goal by Coleton Madge 10:26 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave the Applejacks a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Wellesley was paced by Madge, who tallied one goal. The Applejacks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Wellesley also got points from Tyler Eckert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brett MacDonald also scored for Wellesley. Hagersville kept Wellesley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 34 saves on 36 shots. The Hawks were helped by Mitch Green, who racked up one goal. Green scored 19:34 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Nick Halliday picked up the assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Jesse Ross as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Kyle Parsons and Aleck Boyd, who contributed one a piece. The Applejacks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Aaron Cormier rejected 25 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
