Essex downs Kingsville in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Essex 73s' Adam Dunmore scored 14:13 into overtime to beat the Kingsville Comets, 2-1 (OT).

The win gave Essex a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The 73s were led by goalie Trevor Wheaton, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Wheaton will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.64 entering the contest.

Essex was paced by Dunmore, who had one goal.

The 73s put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kingsville to score on any of its four power plays. The Comets were unable to stop Essex from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 82 shots on goal.

Jordan Brohman also scored for Essex. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Kevin Boggs, Corey Beaulieu, Alex Garon, and Ryan Muzzin, who each chipped in one.

Kingsville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Essex power plays.

The Comets were led by Daniel Beaudion, who scored the team's only goal. Beaudion scored 19:23 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kingsville.

Essex incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Lane Parent recorded 80 saves for Kingsville. The Comets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
