Achiever NE Academy uses fast start to beat Ely/Northeast Range, 10-2Ely Arena Fri, Feb 01, 2013 The Achiever NE Academy Aces opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 10-2 over the Ely/Northeast Range Timberwolves. Cameron Hamlet had a great game for Achiever NE Academy, netting two goals. Hamlet's tallies came at 1:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Achiever NE Academy and 4:23 into the first to make the score 2-0 Achiever NE Academy. The Aces' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Ely/Northeast Range power plays. Achiever NE Academy kept Ely/Northeast Range's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kael Richards made 41 saves on 51 shots. The Aces outdid their season average for goals scored. Achiever NE Academy has scored at the pace of 4.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Achiever NE Academy also got points from Ryan Finnegan, who also registered three goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Garrett Martin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Achiever NE Academy included Matt Minish, who had one and Tyler Thompson, who had three. More assists for Achiever NE Academy came via Victor Morgan, Zach Black, and Ryley Pickrem, who contributed one a piece and Brennan McGuire and Cory Sprague, who each chipped in two. The the Timberwolves penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Ely/Northeast Range had been spending in the box. The Timberwolves excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 11 chances. Ely/Northeast Range's offense was handcuffed by the Aces' defensive play, and the Timberwolves managed only 13 shots on goal during the game.
