Wheatley outlasts Alvinston, 4-2Wheatley Area Arena Wed, Feb 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Wheatley Sharks and the Alvinston Flyers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Wheatley emerged with a 4-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jon Woelk secured the win for the Sharks with a goal in the third period. The win gave Wheatley a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Sharks were led by Woelk, who had one goal. Woelk scored 9:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wheatley. Dan Matoski picked up the assist. In the losing effort, Alvinston was paced by Kirk Dorman, who finished with two goals. Dorman scored the first of his two goals at 8:23 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Dan Warner assisted on the tally. Dorman's next tally made the score 2-2 with 1:20 left in the second period. Warner picked up the assist. Wheatley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Wheatley also got points from Brett Babkirk, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Kyle Quick, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Sebastian Kanally, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Wheatley came via Brian Johnson and Riley Babkirk, who contributed one a piece. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Ryan Fraser, who had one. Marc Tremblay rejected 22 shots on goal for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. James Morreau recorded 24 saves for the Flyers. Alvinston incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
