The Wheatley Sharks jumped out to a five-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Alvinston Flyers, 8-2. The win gave Wheatley a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Riley Babkirk was all over the ice for the Sharks, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Babkirk scored the first of his two goals at 1:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheatley. Babkirk's next tally made the score 3-0 Wheatley with 16:09 left in the first period. Kyle Quick provided the assist. Wheatley's penalty kill excelled, as the Sharks gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays. Wheatley additionally got points from Quick, who also registered one goal and three assists, Sebastian Kanally, who also tallied two goals and three assists, and Jon Woelk, who also had one goal and one assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Brett Babkirk as well. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Brian Johnson, who had two and Dylan Impens and Eric Rivard, who contributed one a piece. Alvinston was led by Dan Warner, who racked up one goal and one assist. Warner scored on the power play 3:13 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Wheatley. The Flyers earned a power play opportunity when Lucas Raffoul was put in the box for cross checking. Matt Laberge picked up the assist. Joe Archer also scored for Alvinston. More assists for Alvinston came via Karsten Berg and Chad Vaneyk, who each chipped in one. Marc Tremblay made 23 saves for Wheatley on 25 shots. The Sharks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wheatley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Impens was ejected from the game. James Morreau made 17 saves before being replaced by Brad Jacklin, who took the loss and made two saves. Alvinston incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
