Mooretown wins tough contest against Belle River, 6-5GLJHL Head Office Sat, Feb 09, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Mooretown Flags and the Belle River Canadiens was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mooretown emerged with a 6-5 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and McGregor Haddon's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, Belle River faces elimination next time out. Belle River was unable to stop the Flags from sending pucks towards the net, and Mooretown eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Mooretown additionally got points from Haddon, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Riley Roberts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Lumley, who also had one goal and two assists. Mooretown also got a goal from Travis Mullen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Adam Hayes, who had one and Mike Burns, who had four. The Canadiens' offense rang up 37 shots on the Flags' net. Belle River was led by Branden Larocque, who registered three goals. Brenden Crundwell also scored for Belle River. Brandon Johnson made 32 saves for Mooretown on 37 shots. The Flags totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. For Mooretown, Ryan Jennings was ejected from the game. The Canadiens' Zakk Olvin stopped 45 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Belle River totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-2 on the power play. For the Canadiens, Jordan Taylor and Mike Ditty were ejected from the contest.
