Dundas beats Chippawa 3-2 after comeback scare

The Chippawa Riverhawks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Dundas Blues held on for a 3-2 victory.

Dundas made the score 3-0 on a goal by Mitch Reid at 17:18 in the second period, and Chippawa got as close as 3-2 when Curtis Sauve scored 19:17 into the third period.

The win gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Dundas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Blues were helped by Dan Pelosini, who grabbed one goal. Pelosini scored 8:46 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Dundas. Matt Charbonneau picked up the assist. Dundas also got points from Reid, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kevin Jaczenko also scored for Dundas. More assists for Dundas came via Andrew Solow, Max Stafford, and Brayden Knott, who each chipped in one.

Dundas was unable to stop the Riverhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Chippawa eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. The Riverhawks managed to stay out of the box for the most part, tallying a minimal one major for five minutes in penalty time.

Chippawa was helped by Thomas Cole, who racked up one goal. Cole scored 10:40 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Dundas. Brayden Stortz assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Adam Quait and Mitchell Smythe, who contributed one a piece.

Mark Sinclair recorded 43 saves for the Blues. Dundas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Riverhawks' starting goalie, Colin Dunne, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of David Johnston, who stopped four shots. Chippawa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Heidebrect was ejected from the game.
