Mount Forest outlasts Wingham, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Mount Forest Patriots escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Wingham Ironmen.

Mount Forest gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ben Davis 13:08 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Wingham faces elimination next time out.

The Ironmen's power play was ineffective against the Patriots' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Mount Forest was paced by Davis, who grabbed one goal.

The Patriots kept Wingham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Keegan Woodman made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Mount Forest also got a goal from Nathan Woodard as well. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Doug Ardis, who had two and Luke Richardson and Trevor Hughson, who contributed one a piece.

The Ironmen's offense rang up 38 shots on Mount Forest's net.

Wingham was helped by Travis Donaldson, who finished with one goal. Donaldson scored on the power play 9:51 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Ironmen had taken the advantage when the Patriots' Cody Wright got sent off for hooking. Aaron Armstrong picked up the assist. Darren Kerr also scored for Wingham. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Brett Brophy, who had one.

Luke Bierworth made 36 saves for Mount Forest on 38 shots. The Patriots incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wingham ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Ironmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Elliott was ejected from the game.
